Blown Cellulose and Fiberglass
One of the most common types of insulation available is loose cellulose or fiberglass blown in to attic spaces. Blown insulation outperforms batt insulation in most every way--in fact, most people in the building science world would say batts are one of the poorest performing types of insulation available. Batts are just difficult to get a good uniform insulation layer with--just try to fit them tightly around truss webbing!
On the other hand, blown products are cost effective, yet allow a nice uniform layer of insulation regardless of the obstacles in an attic. We offer both fiberglass and cellulose to our customers--although if you're willing to take our input, we suggest cellulose nearly every time. Why?
* Better fire protection - more time to get out of a home in case of fire
* Better air stoppage - wind can't blow it around as easily and cold air can't fall through it as easily (we've seen both happen)
* Better ability to stop heat transfer in summer and winter
* Better sound deadening
* Less likely to be hazardous to your health
* More recycled content
